Joseph Costardo is a Connecticut contemporary sculpture artist. He is currently employed as an art educator at Cheshire High School in Cheshire, Connecticut and has received his Masters in Art Education, and Bachelor’s in Graphic Design from Central Connecticut State University.

Mr. Costardo’s interest in art was sparked at an early age while working  alongside his father, an oil painter. Discarded antique furniture has now become the primary source of inspiration for his subject matter.

This media is often found in various states of decay and tattered by years of humble service.  Most of his pieces are found and collected from the curbside, or donated by homeowners who need to get rid of the “junk” in their storage areas. Mr. Costardo spares these once prominent, infallible elements of historic home decor their inevitable fate as refuse.

His art develops by deconstructing and reassembling the naturally distressed components of each piece of furniture into compositions that pay homage to the traditional beauty exclusive to each.  Mr. Costardo’s sculptures breathe new life into these forgotten furnishings notwithstanding their current state.  His attention to detail yields bold compositions that accentuate the mystique, history, and pride that lie within their natural patina.
